Movies...

At WKNR, we love movies. This is a movie I, along with everyone else, am particularly excited to see.

Air Conditioning...

Even though it is amazingly hot outside, it is always freezing in WKNR to comfort the equipment. I may need one of these...

First Days...

At WKNR we have a new intern experiencing her first day. Watching her go through the same things I went through have refreshed my mind on my first day. As I said I have been an intern at WKNR for nearly two years, yet I remember my first day like it was yesterday.

Getting the job was exhilarating. I was so excited for my first day that I woke up and put on my favorite suit. I got into my car, went through the morning commute, and walked into the office at the Galleria. Soon though, the realization hit me that I had no idea what goes on in a workplace.

I decided to sit on the couches in the waiting room and wait until I was instructed. Person by person walked into the office and all asked me if I needed something. All I said was that I was an intern and it was my first day. I sat on that front couch for three hours until Sam Pines finally walked in and invited me back to his office. Three hours of sitting in the same place, reading crappy dated magazines, and talking to a bunch of people I have never met. Apparently Casey got a text message that read "who the hell is this kid up front?" Here are a list of things that could have been running through the WKNR employees' heads:

  • Does he know that he should not audition for Rizzo's prize Goddess?

  • We have a new department of interning...waiting room?

  • Are listeners that desperate to meet us?

  • Dang...is the Greg Brinda fan club really taking off?

  • Great...is another eighteen year old kid is pretending he works here?

  • Hey...are we having one of the Jonas Brother's interview?

    Or again...

  • Who the hell is this kid?

After meeting with Sam, I started to get into the swing of things. I met everyone in the office and after that year and a half feel like an important part of ESPN 850 WKNR. I am going to introduce a couple new types of blog including interviews with staff members, so subscribe!

INTERNS ON THE AIR!

It is very rare to find an intern on the air of ESPN 850 WKNR. This skit of Letterman probably shows why they avoid that part of the internship.

Sales vs. Production

If only WKNR was like this...

Windows...

Windows create possibly the most akward situations at ESPN 850 WKNR.

This studio is laced with windows that just so happen to be placed in the most inoppurtune places. Here are all the windows that you have to avoid:
  1. A window into the WKNR and KNR2 studios where you can make eye contact with a host.
  2. A window into Keith Williams' office that just so happens to be in the middle of everything.
  3. A window into Sam Pines' office.
  4. A window into the producers room.
  5. A window into the meeting room.

The problem with being an intern at WKNR is there is no desk for you to work at. To combat this you must walk from cubicle to cubicle trying to find a place to work. Today is a perfect example of this. I have had to use SIX different computers. While I was doing that I maybe had to walk by each one of those windows a good ten times.

Most of my day is actually focused on how to not make eye contact with the person in the window. The problem is you can only army crawl past windows so many times. The windows make you stick out more than an adult in a Chuckie Cheese ball pit (Disco Stu anyone?). Once eye contact is made, there are only a few things to do.

  • Wave really quick and then move on

  • Pretend like your busy (top men like this)

  • Stare them straight in the eyes until they look away

  • Do a quick dance

  • Look away and pretend like you did not see them
    or my favorite
  • Give them a quick thumbs up and a seducing wink. They will not want to make eye contact again

Well, while I try to avoid these windows I am doing some filing and recaps. You will get another post around nine tonight. Subscribe!
